Beyond Belief

A Course of Instruction in the Catholic Faith

Richard Randolph SJ

Book cover "At the heart of the Catholic Faith is the fact that the truth upon which it is based is given by God. It is not the product of human speculation, though human effort is necessary to learn and appreciate its meaning and significance.

It is necessary, therefore, that the truth, preserved and handed on by the magisterium - the living teaching authority in the Church - should be given faithfully to those who seek to embrace it if it is to enable men and women to live the Christian life.

Father Randolph fulfils this obligation splendidly and to have his Instructions made available in book form is very welcome. He expounds revealed truth in a most illuminating way, constantly relates it to ordinary human life and demonstrates its spiritual significance. He makes clear that the purpose of the revelation of Himself which God has given us is to enable men and women to live the sacramental life, in which, by the consecration of our earthly existence, we can live in communion with Him and be prepared for the glory of life eternal."

(From the Foreword by the Rt Revd and Rt Hon
Monsignor Graham Leonard.)

Whilst a student at Cambridge Father Richard Randolph was received into the Catholic Church by the celebrated Monsignor Alfred Gilbey. He went on to join the Society of Jesus and worked for many years in Africa. In the course of his priestly ministry he has instructed many converts to the Faith. He now lives at Campion Hall, Oxford.
